Have you ever been on an uncomfortable stool? I have. It's the worst thing in the world to sit on, and nothing makes you want to leave an otherwise fine environment any faster. I think the swivel bar stool and its stationary cousin have gotten a bad reputation in general because of experiences doled out by a few short-sighted pub owners who for some reason refuse to take proper care in fine tuning the details of their place.
Those of us who are, shall we say, nightlife connoisseurs can definitely appreciate the difference between a great swivel bar stool and some poor imitation only built to be something to sit on and not something to enjoy. We stay in places a little bit longer for the former. We reward a fine choice with our patronage. Who wants to be uncomfortable, after all?
These same concerns about comfort may be what keeps people from putting a this lovely piece of furniture anywhere a chair is required in their homes. But I have one or two ideas about how it can actually improve your surroundings.
The first is that with a swivel bar stool in your entertainment room, everything becomes easier. You can type on your computer with the television on. True, you can do that anyway, but this holds the added benefit of an easy turn. You type until something catches your interest, then you spin around to watch the explosion, passionate kiss, or dramatic conversation, then you spin back. A family member walks into the room, and it's another easy spin to greet them. Believe me, I do this all the time.
And secondly, a fun thing for all you romantics out there. Just put two kinds of swivel bar stool together and you have an instant love seat. Why turn just your head towards your significant other when you can turn your entire self towards them. It's intimate, it's embracing body language, and it's just a great way to have any conversation. You can stare into each others eyes, you can touch, or whatever your heart desires.
For these and several other reasons, I just adore my swivel bar stool and wouldn't trade it for any other kind of chair. It suits me in the comfort of the pub, in the comfort of my home, and with two of them close together, in the comfort of my partner's arms.
